Vizsla Club of Eastern Iowa

Club Meeting Minutes

The Vizsla Club of Eastern Iowa met on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the Brown Bottle in North Liberty.  Those in attendance were:  Steve and Karen Laughlin, Kelley and Jean Donham, Randy and Diane Caldwell, Darcy Bruns, Emily Bruns, Bruce and Andi Bryant, Dwane Sparks and Nate Schmidt.

Meeting was called to order at 8:10 by President Randy Caldwell.  There was no old business.

Under new business:

First item was the need to have a legislative liaison for the AKC.  Bruce Bryant agreed to fill this position.

Treasurer's report - Treasurer Steve Laughlin reported we have $4,768 in the treasury.  We try to keep enough on hand to cover all expenses of one field trial, approximately $3,300.  We made a profit of $739 at the October, 2009 field trial.  Motion to accept this report by Emily Bruns, second Darcy Bruns, motion passed.

Spring field trial will be held May 1st and 2nd at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area at Shellsburg.  Kelley Donham will chair and Darcy Bruns will secretary.  Randy Caldwell will complete the application for the state grounds.  This now needs to be online and can no longer be mailed in.  Steve Laughlin agreed to order trophies/ribbons and to take care of ordering water for horses.  Emily Bruns made a motion to once again have a cash stake for the Open Limited Gun Dog Stake.  Kelley Donham seconded.  Motion passed.

Randy Caldwell reported on the conditions of the Pleasant Creek grounds which are currently under several feet of snow.  The advisory council would like to pile up and burn brush; however, at this time the snow is too deep to accomplish this.  We need to have two representatives from our club representative us at the advisory council meetings.  Nate Schmidt and CJ Demeulenaere agreed to represent our club.

Discussion was held regarding having a fall field trial.  Due to the nationals beginning at Fort Robinson, Nebraska, on October 4th, we will be unable to have our usual weekend of October 2nd and 3rd.  Alternate dates were discussed.  Randy and Darcy agreed to look into other possible dates.

An FYI to all:  2010 is the 50th year since the AKC recognized the Vizsla.  There is merchandise available to commemorate this event.  Please look on the Vizsla National Association website for more information.  The VCA requested donations for a Parade of Titleholders or appetizers.  We agreed that we would rather sponsor trophies.  Darcy Bruns will look into this option.

Kelley Donham made a motion was to make a donation of $250 to the Delta Society.  The Delta Society is for therapy animals that help humans.  Bruce Bryant seconded.  Motion passed.

Discussion was held to reorder ball caps.  We ordered three dozen last year and they are gone.  Dwane Sparks will check into this.

Steve Laughlin and Kelley Donham agreed to host a fun hunt at their farm on March 13th.  Randy Caldwell will obtain birds.  This, of course, is depending on enough snow melting to make this "fun".

Meeting adjourned at 9:02.

Respectfully submitted-

Darcy Bruns

Secretary
